MY APPROACH

Feel seen. Be heard. Make change.

As a therapist, I provide a place to slow down and reflect; to better understand yourself, your choices, and what you want from your life. While creating an environment of warmth, understanding, nonjudgement, and compassion, I will encourage you to dive deeply and to challenge your assumptions, patterns of behavior, and beliefs about yourself and who you can become. As you make changes, you make new possibilities, and the quality and character of your life transform. Some of the comments I hear most often from clients are, “That’s a great question,” and “I never thought about it that way.” I believe that there is nothing wrong with us that cannot be healed by what is right about us. The answers are within you, and they are your guide to an authentic, fulfilling future.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

The Journey Begins

Therapy is an investment in your current and future wellbeing. It is a way to disrupt unhelpful patterns of the past and to develop meaningful and lasting change for the better. In my practice, I offer two models of therapy to promote that change and to meet your individual needs: Focus and Explore. These models will provide a framework for our time together and help us dive in with purpose and clarity.

FOCUS MODEL

Therapist Led + Short Term + Solution Driven

Clients interested in the Focus Model of therapy have a specific challenge to overcome. These challenges might include managing anxiety or stress, developing relationships, improving communication skills, adjusting to a recent change, or strategizing about an important decision. This model is designed to be brief, often lasting between 7 to 14 sessions, and is primarily led by the therapist. It is also solution-focused, which means we will identify and enhance your innate skills to accomplish your goals. This model often integrates at-home activities to reinforce your positive changes between sessions, while at the same time developing your range of coping skills with techniques like mindfulness and grounding exercises. Should you decide that your concern requires more than 14 sessions, or if you would like to broaden the scope of your therapy, you might consider transitioning to the Explore Model.

EXPLORE MODEL

Client Led + Long Term + Insight Driven

Clients interested in the Explore Model of therapy might not have a specific concern in mind, but rather a general sense that you would like things in your life to be different. Perhaps you just want someone to listen and support you as you process your past experiences or current feelings. Maybe you’re looking for help in recognizing and understanding the patterns in your life. This model puts you in the driver’s seat while the therapist serves primarily as a sounding board; supporting you, sometimes challenging you, and helping you draw important connections and insights. This model also sets the stage for a long-term relationship with your therapist, one which could last several months to a year, or even beyond. This might be a relationship that you come back to over time, taking breaks on occasion and returning when you feel the need. It is a journey that we take together, and I am honored to walk with you.

ART THERAPY TECHNIQUES

Therapy Beyond Words

Many of us have experienced the powerful effects of the arts in our lives, be it a painting, a poem, or a piece of music. By integrating art therapy techniques into the counseling process, you allow yourself to quickly and deeply access your own unique inner world of thoughts and feelings. There is no artistic skill required, and you need not be “an artist” to benefit from the profound impact of this process. Please let me know if you are interested in creative arts as a part of your personal therapy, or if you have any questions about how art therapy techniques can add to the richness of your journey.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Prior to your first appointment, you will receive initial documentation to complete via a secure web portal. If you are unable to complete this documentation electronically, you should plan to arrive around 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to do so in the office. Based on the information provided, you may be asked to complete additional paperwork or assessments.

Your first appointment will be a little different from our typical session. I will ask you a broad range of questions to understand your background and mental health history, identify your goals for counseling, explain your rights as a client, and answer any questions that you might have about the counseling process. This will provide an essential framework for our work together going forward.

HOW MUCH DO SESSIONS COST? HOW LONG IS A SESSION? DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE? DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL SERVICES?

My session rate is $125 per 50-minute appointment. If you are unable to afford this rate, I am happy to provide referrals to other therapists or service providers who may be able to meet your needs.

I am not currently accepting insurance, however, you may be able to use your health savings account (HSA) to pay for services. Please refer to your HSA policy to learn how you might be able to use your benefits.

I offer virtual therapy services for clients located within the state of Florida. These services are provided via a HIPAA-secured platform, and can be utilized in addition to in-person therapy, or in lieu of in-office visits depending on your needs or preference.

WHAT IF I MISS MY APPOINTMENT, OR NEED TO RESCHEDULE OR CANCEL?

To avoid missed appointments, I offer reminders via voice call, text, and/or email. If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, you can do so by email or phone at (904) 370-3932. Cancellations and rescheduled sessions without 48 hours’ notice will be subject to a cancellation fee of $55 and will be charged to your credit card on file. Missing a scheduled appointment without any notice, commonly known as a no-show, will result in a charge of the full session rate of $125. This is necessary because a time commitment is reserved exclusively for you, and without sufficient notice, I am not able to reschedule this time for another client. Please remember to cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance.

WHAT IF I HAVE ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS?

If you have any other questions regarding therapy services with me, please feel free to get in touch using the "Submit Questions" link above.

You can also contact me by phone at (904) 370-3932 or via email at christy@christysellerscounseling.com. I look forward to hearing from you!

CHRISTY SELLERS, MA, MS, LMHC

Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Florida License Number: MH19946

I am a Jacksonville native with a unique background informing my therapeutic practice. I initially studied English and creative writing at Florida State University where I received my Bachelor of Arts. Craving a change of pace and scenery, I later moved to New York City. There I received my Master of Arts in humanities from New York University, completing coursework in gender and sexuality studies, literature, world cultures, and narrative analysis. After returning to Jacksonville to be closer to family and friends, I decided to reapply my skillset in working with people, ultimately completing my Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling from the University of North Florida. Much of my clinical experience is in working with people managing anxiety and depression, adjusting to life transitions, and navigating the questions of meaning and purpose that so many of us grapple with throughout our lives. In short, I help people figure out who they are and the lives they want to lead, and then I help them develop the skills to make it happen. By integrating my training in mental health with my education in metaphor, archetypes, and narrative analysis, I provide a singular therapeutic experience to help you develop insights, make connections, understand your story, and become the person you know yourself to be.
